North West Delhi is anchored by Rohini, one of Asia’s largest planned residential areas, with its sectors of DDA flats, group housing societies and banquet halls that host hundreds of weddings every season. Kirari and Nangloi Jat add dense, fast-growing neighbourhoods to the west. If you married in a Rohini banquet hall or live anywhere in the district, this guide explains how to register your marriage, and what the 2026 district changes mean for you.
North West Delhi after the 2026 reorganisation
Delhi’s revenue districts were reorganised from 11 to 13 with effect from 1 January 2026. Shahdara district was dissolved, three new districts (Old Delhi, Central North and Outer North) were created, and the number of sub-divisions rose from 33 to 39. North West Delhi lost some areas to the new Central North district (around Shalimar Bagh and Shakur Basti) and the new Outer North district (around Narela, Bawana and Mundka).
North West Delhi now has 3 sub-divisions:
| Sub-division | Covers |
|---|---|
| Kirari | The Kirari area and surrounding localities |
| Nangloi Jat | The Nangloi Jat area and surrounding localities |
| Rohini | The Rohini area and surrounding localities |
Sub-division boundaries do not always follow the colony names people use every day. Rohini’s sectors are generally within the Rohini sub-division, but if you live near the edges of the district, check carefully. Always confirm the jurisdiction e-District shows for your exact locality before you apply.
Which office should you apply to?
You can usually apply to the SDM office that covers either the place where your marriage was solemnised or the place where either spouse lives, shown by address proof. Couples who married at a Rohini banquet hall but live in Haryana or elsewhere in Delhi can usually register here on the basis of the place of marriage.
Which law applies?
| Your situation | Route |
|---|---|
| Hindu, Sikh, Jain or Buddhist couple with a religious ceremony | Hindu Marriage Act registration |
| Any couple married in Delhi, of any religion | Delhi Compulsory Registration of Marriage Order, 2014 |
| Inter-faith couple, or a couple wanting a civil marriage | Special Marriage Act (court marriage) |
| One spouse a foreign national | See documents for foreign nationals |
Step by step in North West Delhi
- Check documents for both spouses: identity, date-of-birth and address proof, with names and dates matching across all of them.
- Collect proof of the ceremony: the pandit’s certificate, photographs showing both of you during the pheras, and the invitation card.

- Apply on e-District, selecting North West Delhi district and the sub-division shown for your locality, and pay the fee.
- Book an appointment that both spouses and both witnesses can definitely attend.
- Deliver original affidavits to the SDM office if your sub-division asks for them for online applications.
- Attend with originals, both spouses and two witnesses.
- Download the certificate from e-District after approval, and check every detail.

Banquet hall weddings in Rohini
Rohini’s banquet halls and farmhouses host a large share of the district’s weddings. For registration, the venue matters less than the proof:
- Ask the pandit for a signed certificate with your names, the date and the venue. Many pandits who work at banquet halls carry certificate pads.
- Make sure the invitation card shows the wedding date, not only the reception date.
- Pick two or three photos where both faces are clearly visible during the main ritual.
See wedding card for marriage registration.
Society flats and address proof
Many Rohini residents live in DDA flats or cooperative group housing societies. Aadhaar, a passport or a bank passbook with the flat address works well. If you have just moved in, a registered rent agreement or a recent utility bill with supporting proof can help.
Court marriage in North West Delhi
For a court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, at least one partner must have lived in the district for 30 days before giving notice. The notice is displayed for 30 days, during which objections can be raised. If none is upheld, you marry before the marriage officer with three witnesses and receive the certificate. See court marriage in Delhi.
Practical tips for North West Delhi
- Metro: the Red Line serves Rohini, which makes it easier for witnesses from other parts of Delhi.
- Wedding season traffic: roads around banquet halls are heavily congested in the evenings during the season; morning appointments are easier.
- Witnesses: neighbours from your society often make reliable witnesses because they live close by.
- Check boundaries: if you live near Shalimar Bagh or Narela, you may now fall in a new district.
What to bring on the day
- Originals and two self-attested copies of identity, age and address proof for both spouses
- Both notarised affidavits on e-stamp paper
- Proof of the ceremony and passport-size photographs
- The e-District acknowledgement and fee receipt
- Two witnesses, each with original identity and Delhi address proof and copies
At the appointment, the officer checks originals against your uploads, confirms that both spouses and both witnesses are present, and may ask a few simple questions about the wedding. If the file is complete, approval often follows on the day or shortly after.
After you receive the certificate
Download the certificate from e-District and read every line before you file it away. Names, dates of birth, the date and place of marriage and the parents’ names must match your documents exactly; a small error now becomes a real problem later at a passport office, a bank or an embassy. Save the PDF in two places, such as your email and a cloud drive. If the certificate is going abroad, begin state authentication and apostille straight away. If either of you is changing your surname, the certificate is the anchor document for updating your passport, Aadhaar, PAN and bank records. See name change after marriage in India.
Mistakes we see in North West Delhi files
- Choosing North West for an address that now belongs to Central North or Outer North.
- Invitation cards that only show the reception date.
- Pandit certificates without a date or venue.
- Using a parent’s Rohini address when neither spouse lives there.
Worked example: banquet hall wedding, living in Sonipat
Vikas and Anjali marry at a banquet hall in Rohini. They live in Sonipat, Haryana. They register in North West Delhi on the basis of the place of marriage, uploading the pandit’s certificate and photos, and attend with Anjali’s uncle from Rohini and a family friend from Pitampura as witnesses.
Worked example: moved from Shalimar Bagh
Rohit and Sakshi live in a colony near Shalimar Bagh. Their documents say “North West Delhi”, but e-District places their locality in the new Central North district. They apply there instead and avoid a rejection.
